Skin Resurfacing Northern Virginia | Fairfax | Loundon VA Plastic SurgeonSKIN RESURFACING OPTIONS

Every day, the outermost layers of your skin are subjected to a plethora of damaging environmental elements (i.e. wind, sun, pollutants). Over time, as this damage is compounded, it begins to take a visible toll on the appearance of the skin, and can lead to the formation of a number of skin irregularities and textural problems, including: scarring, fine lines/wrinkles, sun-damaged skin, liver spots, acne, enlarged oil glands, aging skin, warts, and other skin abnormalities.

At The Virginia Institute for Surgical Arts, located in Chantilly, Virginia, Dr. Trang Thuy Vo-Nguyen, (known to her patients as “Dr. V”) is pleased to offer her patients a number of skin resurfacing treatment options that are designed to counteract the damaging effects of the environment and the natural aging process, while safely and effectively rejuvenating the appearance and overall condition of the skin:

  • Fraxel® Laser Skin Resurfacing: employs the use of a specialized laser that directs pulsating beams of light to target and treat a number of problematic skin conditions. Laser skin resurfacing removes the damaged skin cells one layer at a time and then harnesses the power of thermal energy to heat the underlying layers of the skin (dermis) to promote new collagen production. Collagen is imperative for the growth of new, healthy skin cells, and contributes to the appearance of a smoother, more even skin surface. Because of the targeted nature of this treatment, laser skin resurfacing preserves and protects the delicate skin of the face and avoids potential skin discoloration (i.e. hypopigmentation, skin lightening).  Dr. V offers a non-ablative laser treatment option (Fraxel® DUAL), as well as a more intensive ablative option (Fraxel® re:pair) in order to provide a wider range of skin resurfacing treatment options, and to ensure that the skincare needs of every patient are met.
  • Chemical Peel: Chemical peels, which can also be referred to as derma-peeling or chemexfoliation, utilize varying strengths and formulas of chemicals to enhance the appearance of the skin. Chemical peels fall under the category of minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatments, and function by exfoliating and stripping away the damaged, outermost layers of the skin (epidermis), in order to reveal more youthfully smooth, glowing skin. These skin treatments are offered in three strengths (mild, medium, and deep)—as the strength of the peel increases, so does the potential for dramatic changes in the appearance of the skin; however, stronger peels also carry a greater risk of complications such as scarring or hypopigmentation (skin lightening).
  • Microdermabrasion: Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that uses microscopic crystals to remove the outermost layer of dead (keratinized), flaky skin cells, and in doing so, reveals a more luminous, youthfully radiant complexion. Microdermabrasion is an excellent option for patients seeking to improve the condition of sun-damaged, acne prone, rough, or scaly skin, while stimulating collagen production and enhancing the overall tone, tightness, and texture of the skin.
