QWO Cellulite Treatment
Cellulite is a stubborn and complex skin condition marked by the appearance of wavy, dimply, “orange peel” skin texture, and contour irregularity. Until now it was hard to treat the unsightly cellulite without plastic surgery.
At the Virginia Institute for Surgical Arts, we have introduced QWO – the first and only injectable treatment approved by the FDA for the reduction of moderate to severe cellulite in an adult woman’s buttocks. The unique QWO injectable prescription medication eliminates deep cellulite, leaving behind smooth and youthful looking skin.
What does QWO Medication Contain?
QWO injections primarily contain a compound called Collagenase Clostridium Histolyticum or CCH. This is a powerful enzyme that performs the biological role of breaking down collagen fibers (type 1 and type 3) in the targeted body tissue and addressing the underlying structural anomalies to create renewed and superior quality skin.
We can use QWO injectable therapy to remove or reduce cellulite aka dimpled skin from the buttocks, which is an FDA-approved solution. In addition, if you are bothered by the appearance of cellulite and irregular contour in the back of your thighs, we can safely perform QWO treatment in this off-label area as well.

How does QWO Treatment Work?
QWO injectables are known to work in the cellulite-affected areas in three ways:
- It will release the fatty fibrous bands in the dermal layers
- It will redistribute excess fat to create an even look of the skin
- It will trigger collagen formation to create supple and volumized skin
The action mechanism of QWO injectables is called ESR or Enzymatic Subcision and Remodeling. When the medication is injected at the precise location and depth under a targeted dimple, it will start the ESR process. The collagen packed fibrous septae, which are involved in the formation of cellulite, will go through enzymatic degradation.
Once these fibrous structures are disrupted at a sub-dermal level, it will quickly release the skin depressions and dimples that are associated with cellulite. The skin surface will become smooth and even looking. At the same time, QWO medication will promote the process of neocollagenesis (fresh formation of collagen molecules), which will continue to enrich and enhance your skin from within.
Treatment Cycle and Results
QWO injectable treatment for cellulite in women is recommended as a series of three treatments performed 3 weeks apart. The injections are performed using tiny needles, and the in-office injection procedure can be completed in as little as 10 minutes. Each treatment session may include up to two treatment areas.
Women who participated in QWO clinical trials required no specific post-treatment downtime. Research studies have shown that visible results will occur in about 10 weeks. But most patients report an improvement in just 20 days following their first treatment. The available data indicates that QWO cellulite reduction outcomes may sustain for at least a few years.
Comparing QWO Injections with Other Cellulite Treatments
Laser, blade, and cannula based non-surgical treatments are available to treat cellulite. However, all these treatments use more aggressive or mechanical techniques to sever the fibrous septae in order to release cellulite. QWO is the only treatment that chemically loosens septae using small injections. As a result, QWO is minimally invasive, causes little to no discomfort, and involves no significant downtime or recovery.
