The muscles on your face contract every time you smile, laugh, squint, frown, or even concentrate. Over time, these contractions produce permanent wrinkles especially around your eyes, mouth, and between your eyebrows and forehead. The muscles creasing under your skin cause wrinkles and those unwanted lines add years to the appearance of your face. BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments not only prevent the lines you already have from deepening further, they erase the marks of aging allowing you to look youthful once again. The number one cosmetic procedure performed in the United States today, BOTOX® is FDA approved and has a 20-year record of safety and effectiveness. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a natural, purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. BOTOX® is a non-surgical procedure that originally gained popularity as a treatment for frown lines in the central forehead known as the glabellar region. Other areas of your face that respond to treatment with BOTOX® include your upper forehead or brow, lower eyelid wrinkles, your upper nose, the areas surrounding your eyes (crow’s feet), chin dimples, upper lip lines, and your neck.

Dr. Trang Vo-Nguyen, known to her patients as Dr. V, is one of the country’s foremost experts on BOTOX®. She has accomplished significant research and published numerous articles regarding cosmetic procedures including BOTOX®. Dr. V is also recognized by her peers as an educator and leader in the field of injectables and at her state-of-the-art facility, The Virginia Institute for Surgical Arts, Dr. V uses Botox® for cosmetic treatments.

The Botox Procedure

BOTOX® treatments involve injections in small doses in the areas where temporary weakness or paralysis of a facial muscle is desired. During your treatment, Dr. V will inject a small dose of BOTOX® directly into the muscles that are responsible for creating your wrinkles. The medication will relax the muscles in specific areas and the protein blocks transmission of the signals that are conducted between nerves and muscles. BOTOX® effectively deactivates the muscles that produce your wrinkles causing lines to disappear or diminish dramatically and the number of injections needed depends on how many areas are affected. BOTOX® is considered a simple office procedure that typically takes approximately 10-15 minutes and it does not require local anesthesia. There is minimal down time following your procedure and you may return to your normal routine the same day with restrictions on engaging in vigorous activities. Results typically last three to four months; however there is variability among individuals.
